Experience/Training
Dr. Sarah St. Germain is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in West Hartford, CT.
Dr. St. Germain received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Harvard University. She completed a predoctoral internship in mood and anxiety disorders at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in eating disorders at McLean Hospital (Belmont, MA). She is a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders, the Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association, and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. She has served as an Assistant Psychologist at McLean Hospital and a Part-Time Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. St. Germain specializes in using treatments that are based on scientific research. She primarily works from a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) approach. Dr. St. Germain works most often with adolescents and adults struggling with eating and body image issues, anxiety, and/or depression.
Dr. St. Germain has published original research on the psychological and behavioral clinical correlates of self-injurious behaviors (broadly defined). She has also written on the topics of borderline personality disorder, body image in eating disorders, and treatment effectiveness.
